Gorski Kotar (Mountain Region) is a plateau at an average height of 700-900 m from which it rises up to 1500 m above the sea level. It ascends steeply over Kvarner region, whilst the access from the continental direction is more gradual. Summers are short, fresh and very pleasant to enjoy outdoor activities. The moisture level in this region is abundant due to its rich forests creating a frequent morning mist.

Rules of behavior

Cycling above all is a pleasant activity. In order for you to enjoy safe cycling,
it is necessary to abide by the rules and regulations which are in force in the Republic of Croatia.

Please follow these regulations;

Cyclists are required to use cycle lanes and cycle tracks. They may not, however, use motorways and similar roads.
When cycling in the group of two or more, cyclists are advised to ride one behind the other.
Cyclists must not ride without holding the handlebars with at least one hand, must not allow themselves to be towed by another vehicle, and must not carry, tow, or push objects which hamper their cycling or endanger other road users, ride under the influence of alcohol or other substances, carry another passenger unless the bicycle has been designed to do so.

Cyclists under 16 years of age should wear a protective helmet.

The fine for each of the above-mentioned offenses is 300,00 Kuna.
By adhering to these rules, you ensure the safety of yourself and other road users.

DO NOT RIDE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY
Respect private properties and avoid unauthorized entrance.
DO NOT LEAVE A TRACE
Be mindful and leave no trace when you ride the trails. Stay on the existing trail, do not look for new unmarked trails. Slow down to avoid sudden sharp bends.
STAY IN CONTROL OF YOUR BICYCLE
Observe all regulations and speed recommendations for cyclists. A moment of neglect can cause problems.
ANNOUNCE YOUR PRESENCE
Announce your arrival early enough. Friendly greeting and/or bells are polite gestures. Be mindful of others around you. Always be prepared to slow down and stop if necessary.
DO NOT SCARE WILDLIFE
Be mindful of wildlife. Animals can be easily scared by an unexpected arrival, sudden movement or sudden noise. In such situations, the wildlife can be unpredictable. Disturbing any wildlife is a serious offence.
PLAN AHEAD
Plan your journey and tell someone of your whereabouts. Ensure you have suitable cycling equipment, appropriate clothing for all weathers, cycling maps, some food, water and that you are confident in your riding abilities. Take responsibility for your actions.
